GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team suffered a tough loss at the hands of Grand Valley State University on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals (8-9, 3-4 GLIAC) struggled to find their footing against the Lakers' (16-1, 7-0 GLIAC) defense in the 71-32 loss.

GVSU hopped out to a quick 15-3 lead in the opening half of the first quarter and the Cardinals couldn't recover from the deficit as the Lakers held a 23-8 advantage at the end of the period.

Saginaw Valley State was held to four points in the second quarter as the deficit moved to 36-12 at the break.

The Cardinals had their best quarter in the third as they scored 11 points, but Grand Valley State continued its effort on the defensive side of the ball to hold the Cardinals a season-low in points for a game.
