DETROIT – The Saginaw Valley State women's basketball team took another win in the Wayne State Holiday Tournament with a 72-55 win against Carson-Newman University. Senior Kaitlyn Zarycki led the team with a season-high 27 points and ten rebounds to complete her second double-double of the season in the victory against the Eagles.

Senior Emma Dziezgowski called for the second top-scoring player with a solid 12 points and four rebounds. Aside from Zarycki, Senior Tori DePerry snagged ten boards while contributing 9 points to the Cardinals' victory this afternoon.

Senior Tyler Scheid started the first quarter with a layup in the first 30 seconds of play. Two plays later, Zarycki's 3-point jump shot took the lead for the Cardinals. The score was tied three times throughout the first quarter, with the final deadlock at 11 points with 3:19 left on the clock. The Eagles would capture the slim lead, 12-11, with a made free throw before Zarychki scored five-straight points to climb to a 16-12 lead in the final 60 seconds. A jumper from Carson-Newman held the margin at one possession as the quarter ended.

Carson-Newman hit a shot from distance to recapture the lead 30 seconds into the second, but junior Victoria Stafford got things tied back up with a jumper one minute later. The score remained close until Zarycki hit a layup, and Dziezgowski replied with a three to break a tie at 20 points to give the Cardinals a lead they wouldn't relinquish for the remainder of the first half.

Zarycki scored to start the third as SVSU continued to grow the lead up to a 43-33 edge at the 6:28 mark. The Eagles dwindled the lead back down to single digits, getting as close as four points down, but the Cardinals maintained the advantage, 48-41, as the game moved into the fourth.

The final quarter was all SVSU as Zarycki tallied nine points and helped build the game's largest lead, 72-51, with 1:14 left to play. The Cardinals controlled the paint as they outrebounded the Eagles 39-29. The SVSU bench contributed 24 points in a game that saw the Cardinals make 11 shots from beyond the arc.
