UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team returned home for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Thursday at the James E. O'Neill Jr. Arena.

The Rangers closed the second and third quarters on runs and held off a Cardinal rally in the fourth to escape with a 74-67 win. The loss is the third straight for the Cardinals and drops SVSU to 12-7 overall and 7-5 in the GLIAC.

How it Happened:

• The Cardinals jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead on a 3-pointer by Tyler Scheid and led 12-7 after a 3-pointer from Barrie with 5:20 to play in the first.
• Victoria Stafford hit a layup late in the first quarter and the Cardinals led the Rangers 20-14 after the first.
• Barrie hit her third 3-pointer of the half to give the Cardinals a seven-point lead with under five minutes to play in the half.
• The Rangers closed the second quarter on a 13-2 run to take a 35-31 lead into the break.
• SVSU tied the game up in the first minute of the third quarter and the teams went back and forth to open the second half.
• The Rangers closed a second straight quarter with a run, closing the third 9-2 to build a 59-51 lead heading to the fourth.
• After Parkside went up by as many as nine, the Cardinals chipped away. Kaitlyn Zarycki hit a 3-point play to cut the deficit to 64-62 with just over 5 minutes to play.

Inside the Box Score:

• Maddie Barrie led the Cardinal offense with 16 points, including 11 in the first half. She hit a team-high four 3-pointers.
• Tori DePerry finished with 13 points and five rebounds.
• Kaitlyn Zarycki added 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
• Maddie Maloney led the team in assists with five and scored nine points.
• The Cardinals shot 23-of-60 from the field, 7-of-25 from deep, and 14-of-20 at the line. SVSU won the rebounding battle 39-30.
• The Rangers were led by GLIAC leading scorer Alyssa Nelson with 29 points, including five 3-pointers.
