UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team controlled its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup with Lake Superior State University from the start on Saturday at the James E. O'Neill Jr. Arena.

The Cardinals held the Lakers to just 11 points in the first half and cruised to a 73-43 win to move to 12-4 overall and 7-2 in the GLIAC.

With her 23rd of 25 points in the game, junior SVSU guard Kaitlyn Zarycki joined the SVSU women's basketball 1,000-career point club.

How it Happened:

  • The Cardinals outscored the Lakers 21-3 in the first quarter, with Maddie Barrie, Maddie Maloney, and Ashley Buchholz each scoring five points in the frame.
  • Kaitlyn Zarycki got going in the second with six points as the Cardinals stretched their lead to 39-11 at the break.
  • Zarycki picked up the scoring early in the third with a pair of 3-pointers in the opening minute of the half.
  • After hitting another 3-pointer early in the fourth, Zarycki was just one point shy of the 1,000 mark.
  • Two possessions later, Zarycki drove to the basket hit the shot, and was fouled, as she reached the career milestone.

Inside the Box Score:

  • Zarycki filled the box score all game, finishing with 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting, hitting all three of her 3-point shots. She added seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
  • Maddie Barrie scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds.
  • Tori DePerry and Ashley Buchholz each scored eight points.
  • The Cardinals shot 30-of-59 from the field, 9-of-17 from deep, and 4-of-7 from the line.
  • SVSU won the rebounding battle 37-25.
  • Mattison Rayman led the Lakers with 17 points and five rebounds.
