HAMMOND, Ind. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team defeated the Purdue University Northwest Pride on Thursday in Hammond, Ind. The 60-49 road victory moves the Cardinals (RV) to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. 

How it happened:

• SVSU's first three baskets came from 3-point range. Maddie Barrie hit two 3-point baskets and Kaitlyn Zarycki made one for the Cardinals. 
• The Pride went on a 9-0 run of their own to take a 13-9 lead before a Zarycki layup with 1:19 remaining in the first quarter. Tyler Scheid hit a pair of free throws before Purdue Northwest made a layup to take a 15-13 lead after one quarter. 
• The second quarter saw the Cardinals hold the Pride to just seven points. SVSU outscored Purdue Northwest 12-7 to take a 25-22 halftime lead.
• Both teams traded baskets to begin the third quarter, Tori DePerry got the scoring started for SVSU in the second half with a layup.
• The third quarter continued to be a back-and-forth affair with the Cardinals outscoring the Pride 17-16, taking a four-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. 
• Purdue Northwest got to within one point with 8:09 remaining, before SVSU got back-to-back baskets by Barrie and Scheid. 
• Following the media timeout, SVSU opened up a 10-point lead, with free throws by DePerry and Maddie Maloney sealing the win for the Cardinals. 

Inside the Box Score:

• Zarycki scored 18 points on 8-13 shooting while also dishing out five assists, DePerry posted 15 points on 6-9 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. 
• Barrie added 10 points for the Cardinals as well. She also grabbed eight rebounds.
• Antreese Shelton led the Pride with 10 points. 
• SVSU outrebounded PNW 32-31. The Cardinals also had 13 assists compared to the Pride's 12. 
• The Cardinals were 22-51 from the field, 5-16 from deep, and 11-15 from the free-throw line. Purdue Northwest was 18-47 from the field, 4-13 from 3-point range, and 9-16 from the line.
