The Cardinals received 39 points to finish four behind Grand Valley State, which received one first-place vote as well. Ashland was picked to win the South Division, garnering 61 points and the other 11 first-place votes.

Sophomore guard and reigning GLIAC Freshman of the Year was named to the Preseason All-GLIAC team as well after her standout 2019-20 season for the Cards.

2020-21 SVSU Women's Basketball GLIAC Preview

The Cardinal Women's Basketball Team, although still a young group with no seniors on the roster, will return a good amount of experience from a 2019-20 team that posted a 12-17 overall record and had a GLIAC postseason appearance.

Second year head coach Jenny Pruett will welcome back eight players from last year's team, including last year's GLIAC Freshman of the Year and leading scorer in sophomore guard Kaitlyn Zarycki. Zarycki will be joined by fellow starting guards in juniors Maddie Maloney, Maddie Barrie and Ashley Buchholz in leading the way for the backcourt. Post player Tori DePerry returns down low, as do Kyndall Spires and Tyler Scheid as frontcourt players while Jessica Massey has game experience at the guard position for SVSU.  A talented crop of five freshmen figure to see plenty of game action for Saginaw Valley as well in the 2020-21 campaign.

SVSU opens the season with a pair of home games versus Grand Valley State January 8-9 before hitting the road to play at Northern Michigan January 16-17.
