Lady Cardinals drop 60-56 contest to Bulldogs

UNIVERSITY CENTER -- A 21-point fourth quarter push wasn't enough for the SVSU Women's Basketball team, as the Lady Cardinals fell at home by a narrow 60-56 score to the Ferris State University Bulldogs.

Saginaw Valley falls to 3-16 overall on the year and 3-9 in the GLIAC while Ferris State improves to 11-7 overall and 8-4 in league action.

The first half was closely contested, with the Cardinals holding a slim 11-10 edge after 10 minutes of action. The Bulldogs, however, bounced back to post an 18-14 advantage in the second quarter to take a 28-25 lead into the halftime break.

Ferris State separated a bit more in the third, outscoring SVSU by a 21-10 margin to lead by a 49-35 score heading into the fourth, which was its largest lead of the contest.

The Cardinals battled back in the final 10 minutes of action, working the deficit down to just a pair twice, with the second coming as 33 seconds remained and the visitors led 58-56 after a Kaitlyn Geers layup.

The Bulldogs then hit a pair of free throws with seven seconds left and secured the 60-56 win after a last second triple try for Saginaw Valley fell no good.
