Settingsgaard Posts Career-High in Loss Against #17 Florida Southern

Lakeland, Fla. — The SVSU Women's Basketball team headed south to the sunshine state to begin their holiday trip taking on hosts, No. 17 Florida Southern, Monday afternoon, in the Terrace Hotel Classic. Despite a total team effort, the Cardinals fell to the Mocs, 91-65, heading to a 0-1 start at the Classic. FSC earned its eighth win of the season. 

Saginaw Valley came out fairly tough in the first five minutes of action against the #17 Mocs, staying within two points majority of the time. As FSC stepped up their game in the remainder of the quarter, so did the amount of fouls for both sides of the ball. 

The Mocs pulled away in the final moments, posting a 29-14 lead heading into the second quarter. Hannah Settingsgaard recorded eight points for the Cards, going 4-of-6 from the field. 

Even though Settingsgaard opened up the second quarter with two good layups, Saginaw Valley would trail for the remainder of the half. Florida Southern pushed the Cardinal deficit to 20, carrying the 50-30 lead into the lockerroom break. 

Even with the valiant fight from the Cardinals in the second half, the Moccasins continued to rally, outscoring the SVSU 41-35. 

FSC took the victory, 91-65, heading to an 8-1 overall start on the year. Saginaw Valley fell to 1-7. 

Inside the Box Score: 

  • Settingsgaard earned her Meijer Player of te Game accolades after posting her new career-high of 30 points, while adding two steals and two rebounds against the #17 Mocs.
  • Julia Cianferra was strong off the bench, earning seven points and three rebounds
  • Abby Duffy recorded four points and earned eight boards. 
  • Kyndall Spires was another impact off the bench, posting her career-high of nine boards, two blocks and five points. 
  • Kaitlyn Geers led the team with two assists.
  • Maddie Maloney added the team-high of 30 minutes played, posting six points.
