ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Saginaw Valley State University Women's Basketball team landed once again on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top-25 Team Honor Roll.

The Cardinals finished 24th in all of NCAA Division II for the 2017-18 campaign with their team GPA of 3.575, marking the fourth time in the past five years that the program has landed inside the top 25 nationally for academics.

In 2016-17, the Cards were 18th nationally with a 3.576 GPA. SVSU finished 17th nationally in 2014-15 with a GPA of 3.559 and 8th in the 2013-14 campaign with a mark of 3.61.

"I continue to be proud of our program and the efforts they put forth in the classroom on a yearly basis," said Head Coach Jamie Pewinski. "Getting a degree and putting academics first is something that we always talk about, but this shows that there is action behind those words! All of the credit goes to each athlete and their dedication to pursuing their degree and accomplishing their goals."

A team's GPA is calculated by dividing the total number of quality points (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0) earned by the total number of academic hours attempted by all team members in the academic terms (semesters or quarters) that the season spans. Weighted grades are converted to a 4.0 scale. The GPAs are rounded to the nearest thousandth of a point. Teams are nominated for the honor by the WBCA-member head coach. A team must have a 3.000 or better GPA to be nominated.
