Jacqmain nets career-high in setback at Davenport

Grand Rapids, Mich. — The SVSU Women's Basketball team headed over to the west side of the state to start their first of the final three home games of the season, starting with Davenport Saturday (Feb. 17) afternoon. The Cardinals led the Panthers 3/4 of the contest, but struggled to stop DU in the fourth quarter leading to the 68-63 loss in the Davenport Main Arena.

Laurel Jacqmain was off to an impressive start, scoring 11 points in the first quarter of action, with SVSU shooting 47.1% from the field. The team also had four steals and led 20-10 heading into the second portion of the half. 

Jacqmain continued to lead the Cardinals, posting seven additional points and three boards in the second quarter. Also reserve Abby Duffy helped out, notching five points. 

Even with Davenport outscoring SVSU in the second quarter, 19-14, the Cardinals continued to hold the lead 34-29 at the halftime break. 

Hannah Settingsgaard and Jacqmain ran the floor after the break, earning a total of five points each in the third quarter. At this point, the Cardinals had gone 8-of-8 from the charity stripe. SVSU led the Panthers 52-48 heading into the final ten minutes of action. 

The fourth quarter was no different as Jacqmain notched another five points and led the SVSU scoreboard. The Panthers out-worked the Cards and later went on to take the victory, 68-63. 

Inside the Box Score

  • Jacqmain set her career-high and led the team in points  with 28 points, earning herself the "Meijer" player of the game honors. She also led the team in boards with eight and three steals. 
  • Duffy followed with nine points and three rebounds. 
  • Kaitlyn Geers and Settingsgaard both notched eight points. Settingsgaard led the team with three assists. 
  • Anna Hall had six boards and three steals, as well. 
  • SVSU edged out a 39.1% to 31.6% in triples over Davenport. 
  • Saginaw Valley shot 88.9% (8-9) from the charity stripe.
