UNIVERSITY CENTER — The SVSU Women's Basketball team fell in the season home closer to Wayne State University. The Cardinals faught back to take the lead in the third quarter, but the Warriors went on to take the lead back and defeat Saginaw Valley, 60-52.
Francesca Coury opened up the first quarter with a great pass from Kaitlyn Geers to go up 3-0 in the first minute of action. Wayne State responded with a six-point run to take the lead 6-3 which was stopped by Geers with two good free throws.
Warriors notched one more bucket from the field to go up 8-5 at the conclusion of the first quarter.
Wayne State carries over from their run at the end of the first, earning a nine-point run (15-7) stopped by a Laurel Jacqmain bucket at the 7:47 mark in the second quarter.
The Cardinals went on a four point run to trail by nine with under six minutes remaining. SVSU got within six of the Warriors at the 1:55 mark, trailing 22-16.
Saginaw Valley State headed into the locker room trailing 27-20 with Anna Hall leading the pack with six points on the board. SVSU earned nine of their points from the charity stripe.
With the Cardinals pace picking up at the start of the third, with Jacqmain heading into double-figures with a jump shot at 8:44 minute mark, trailing the Warriors by five (30-25).
At 4:23, Coury posts a triple to come within a one possession game with Warriors leading, 36-34. With a triple from Hall, SVSU takes their first lead of the 39-38 with 1:46 remaining in the quarter.
SVSU and WSU head into the fourth quarter knotted up, 41-41, with two Cardinals (Hall and Jacqmain) in double figures.
The last ten minutes of action were back and fourth until the Warriors finally took a four point lead at the media timeout, 54-50.
Wayne State went on to extend the lead to eight with just under four minutes remaining (58-50) until it was stopped by Jacqmain's layup with 3:09 remaining in the contest, 58-52.
The deficit was to large and the Cardinals went on to fall to the Warriors 60-52 Thursday (Feb. 15) evening.

- Hall led the stats sheet with 19 points and eight boards, going 4-for-4 from the charity stripe, earning herself "meijer" player of the game honors.
- Jacqmain was closely behind Hall, scoring 16 points and seven rebounds.
- Coury notched 11 points and two boards.

- The Cardinals out-shot the Warriors 36% to 35.5% in field goals and 78.6% to 73.3% from the charity stripe.
