Cardinals To Take On GLIAC Foe Northwood Saturday Night

UNIVERSITY CENTER — The Saginaw Valley State Women's Basketball team will take on GLIAC foe, Northwood University, on the road this Saturday (Dec. 16) beginning at 6 p.m. in Riepma Arena. The Cardinals are on a two-game winning streak, while the Timberwolves are coming off a solo victory over Lake Superior State, Saturday (Dec. 9) afternoon.

— The Cardinals fell to the Timberwolves last season in a 65-62 contest, played at SVSU. Earlier in the 2016-17 season, SVSU had defeated Northwood 72-54 on the road. Saginaw Valley State has won four out of the last five contests against NU. The Cardinals hold the all time record at 58-22. Northwood is currently 2-1 in conference and 6-3 overall. They are currently second in the South Division behind #1 in the country, Ashland.

CARDINALS LAST WEEK

— The Cardinals defeated Lake Superior State in their first victory of the 2017-18 season on Thursday (Dec. 7) in the GLIAC home opener. After the score was tied 44-44 at the conclusion of the third, the Cardinals went on a 14 point run and used that to take the victory, 64-52. Laurel Jacqmain posted a career-high night in two categories with 16 points and eight boards, earning herself the "Meijer" player of the game. She added two assists, as well. Abby Duffy added 16 points, seven rebounds and one block. Hannah Settingsgaard went 7-for-11 in free throws and posted 12 points. Anna Hall posted the team-high of six assists and had eight rebounds. Rozhane Wells notched her career-high of four rebounds and four assists. Kaitlyn Geers added seven points off the bench for the Cardinals. The home squad won the points in the paint category as well, posting a 26-20 advantage and had a 45-34 edge in boards in the victory.

— The SVSU Women's Basketball team continued their winning streak as they took down GLIAC opponent Ferris State in Saturday's contest at O'Neill Arena. As the Cardinals trailed 36-33 heading into the half, SVSU bounced back and posted 44 points in the second half to take the 77-72 victory over the Bulldogs. Duffy posted her career-high of 21 points, earning her the "Meijer Player of the Game" honors. She added six rebounds, one steal and a solo assist, as well. Jacqmain had her first career double-double with 13 points and her career high of 10 rebounds. Settingsgaard led in steals for the Cardinals with four. She had a season high six rebounds and added seven points, as well. Kierra Crockett and Geers posted eight points each off the bench, both career-highs. Geers led the team and earned her career high in blocks with three, as well. The Cardinals won the points in the paint category as well, posting a 44-40 advantage and contributed a 40-35 edge in boards.
