SVSU Women's Basketball Hosts Two In GLIAC Home Opening Weekend

UNIVERSITY CENTER — The SVSU Women's Basketball team opened up GLIAC action on the road this past weekend and will return to action on Thursday and Saturday for the conference home openers. The Cardinals host Lake Superior State on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. and will see the Bulldogs of Ferris State on Saturday at 8:00 p.m.

— The Cardinals defeated the Lakers in both conference matchups in the 2016-17 season. Saginaw Valley State has won five out of the last five contests against Lake State. The Cardinals hold the all time record at 48-39.

— Saginaw Valley State took down the Bulldogs during the 2016-17 campaign, defeating Ferris State on the road in a 71-64 decision. The Cardinals have won seven out of the last 10 games over FSU, keeping the all-time record between the two in SVSU's favor at 50-34.

CARDINALS LAST WEEK

The SVSU Women's Basketball team went 0-2 this past weekend on their annual trip to the U.P., dropping the conference opener to #18 Michigan Tech on Thursday night, 59-37 before falling again in a 60-52 matchup at Northern Michigan on Saturday morning.

Against Tech, Laurel Jacqmain reached double-digits for the fourth time of the season, coming just one point shy of her career-high. She posted a team-best 12 points, adding four rebounds and a steal. Anna Hall added five points with four boards. Kierra Crockett grabbed a team-high six rebounds, marking a new career-high for her in just her seventh contest. Hannah Settingsgaard had a game-high three steals and added a pair of blocks. 

In the Northern game, Settingsgaard led the way offensively for SV with her team-high of 14 points. She added a team-best four rebounds and four steals. Jacqmain was the only other Cardinal to reach double figures in scoring, netting 11 points with four boards, two assists and a pair of steals. Francesca Coury added six points and four steals with two helpers as well. Kaitlyn Geers had solid production off the bench as well, matching her career-high with seven points. Each team's bench had 15 points of scoring.
