AUSTIN, Texas - Saginaw Valley State University senior forward Emily Wendling has been selected to the 2016-17 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division II Women's Basketball First Team. This is the second such honor for Wendling, who was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team for the 2015-16 campaign.

Wendling became the program's all-time leading scorer on Tuesday (Feb. 28) night in the team's GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinal victory over Northern Michigan. She currently has 1,931 points and has surpassed the previous mark of 1,922 points. Emily has maintained a 3.94 cumulative GPA as an occupational therapy student.

The 6-3 forward is second in the GLIAC in scoring (18.8 ppg) and is fifth in rebounding (7.6 rpg). She leads the league with 143 free throws made and ranks second with her 89.4 free throw percentage. Wendling recently became SVSU's all-time leader in free throws as well, and has 470 and counting. She sits just 23 rebounds shy of joining the 1,000-point, 1,000-rebound club as well.

The Cardinals will face Grand Valley State University on Saturday (Mar. 4) in a 4:00 p.m. GLIAC Tournament Semifinal matchup at Ashland University. The teams have split the 2016-17 regular season series, with each team notching a home victory.
