ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The SVSU women's basketball team hit the road for a regional contest against the No. 17 Lewis University Flyers on Friday (Dec. 30) evening. The Flyers held a 10-point lead at the half and would extend that deeper into the game, eventually claiming an 80-43 victory over the Cardinals.
Saginaw Valley jumped out to an early 5-2 lead at the 8:39 mark after a three-pointer from Anna Hall and a jumper by Halee Nieman. A triple from Hannah Settingsgaard with 5:46 showing on the clock made the score 8-6 in SVSU's favor. Lewis would knot the score and take the lead at 11-8. After Nieman tied the count again, this time at 11-11 with 3:21 left in the quarter, the Flyers scored four straight to close out the first quarter with a 15-11 lead.
The lead extended to 21-11 for the home team to begin the second quarter until Katelyn Carriere connected on the first of two free throw tries to make the score 21-12 at the 6:53 marker. A layup and pair of free throws from Hall, coupled with a Settingsgaard layup at the 4:42 mark made the run 7-0 and the score just 21-18. The Lewis lead would reach double-digits at 29-19 after two consecutive triples. Settingsgaard made good on a three-point attempt with 46 seconds remaining in the half to cut the score to 34-26 in Lewis's favor. The Flyers responded with a bucket to close-out the frame, making the halftime score 36-26.
The home squad got some separation in the third quarter, posting a 32-10 scoring edge in the frame to take a 68-36 advantage into the fourth quarter. Carriere notched eight of the points for SVSU in the third, with Emily Wendling getting the other two.
The fourth and final quarter was a low scoring affair, with the Flyers posting a 12-7 advantage in the quarter. The Cardinals got free throws from Abby Duffy, Abby Schlicher, Katie Schultz and a bucket from Grace Whelan to account for the team's scoring in the fourth. The Flyers closed-out the contest with an 80-43 victory.

- Carriere had a team-high 11 points in the contest. She added three rebounds and three assists in the game.
- Duffy pulled-down a game-best nine boards, adding five points and a block for SVSU.
