December's SVSU Women's Basketball "Get to Know" feature highlights freshman guard, Mariah Cook...

UNIVERSITY CENTER, MI –This edition of Women's Basketball "Get to Know" spotlight for the 2016-2017 season will highlight freshman guard, Mariah Cook. Mariah joins the Cardinals this season after a standout high school career at Laker High.

Below are a few comments from Head Coach, Jamie Pewinski, about Mariah Cook:

"Mariah has been a great addition to our program. She has an excellent work ethic and desire to be a better basketball player. She is fully bought in to our culture and has the potential to be a great leader. Mariah has an outgoing personality and she is involved in many things around campus. She probably knew half of the freshman class on campus, before classes even began!" – Coach Pewinski 

Here is what Mariah has to say about her time at Saginaw Valley State University:

"I have loved my time here so far. My teammates have become my family and we've had a lot of fun! I'm so excited to see what the future has in store for my time here at SVSU!"

Why did you choose SVSU? 

I love the campus, from the scenery to the people. As soon as I set foot on campus it felt like home. 

What is your favorite part of campus? 

The Ryder Center 

What is your favorite movie? 

Just Go With It 

What is your favorite food? 

Chicken 

Who is your greatest inspiration and why? 

My brother.  He is the hardest worker I know and my best friend, always putting others before himself and keeps a smile on his face while doing it. I am inspired by his passion for life and want to make him proud to call me his sister. 

What is your favorite music group/artist? 

Drake and Ty Dolla $ign 

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? 

Spending time with friends, listening to music, play any sport 

What is your career ambition? 

To be an Athletic Trainer. I want to stay involved in sports in any way possible and if I can help athletes do what they love, I'll be happy!
