Looking for just the second NCAA Division II Playoff Appearance in program history (1992-93), the SVSU women's basketball team appears in the No. 8 spot in the first Midwest Regional Rankings, released on Wednesday (Feb. 17) afternoon.

Saginaw Valley is in the eighth position with a 16-7 NCAA Division II record and and same mark in regional play. The Lady Cards currently sit in a tie atop the GLIAC North Division Standings with Michigan Tech, which is ranked 10th in the region and SV just defeated this past Saturday. 

The top eight teams from the region will advance to the NCAA Tournament and the league tournament champions from the GLIAC, GMAC and GLVC will automatically qualify. Weekly rankings will be released the next two Wednesdays and the final tournament selections will happen Sunday, March 6th.

Saginaw Valley hits the road Thursday (Feb. 18) for a 6:00 p.m. contest at Grand Valley State University in what will be a crucial matchup. The Lakers (16-7, 15-7) are ranked just ahead of SVSU in the No. 7 spot regionally and are a game behind both SV and Tech in the GLIAC North Division Standings.
