Saginaw Valley State University sophomore women's basketball student-athlete Emily Wendling was named to the 2014-15 CoSIDA Academic All-District Four Team at the NCAA Division II level.
Wendling is participating in her second year on the court and returning from an injury that prevented her from playing the entire 2013-14 season. She has picked up right where she left off in the 2012-13 season, where she was selected as the GLIAC "Freshman of the Year" and a member of the All-GLIAC First Team. She is averaging 16.3 ppg and 9.8 rpg, just shy of averaging a double-double. Both averages rank third in the GLIAC. Emily is connecting on 87.2% of her free throw attempts as well, ranking her fifth in the league. She has 24 blocks for an average of 1.1 per contest, which ranks seventh in the GLIAC.
The Flushing, Michigan native's performance in the classroom is even more impressive. She maintains a 3.95 cumulative GPA as an Occupational Therapy major. Wendling is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-American honors after being named to the Academic All-District team. The All-American teams are to be named later this month.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic AllAmerica honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
