Greene Named to BCAM Women's College Academic-Athletic Team

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Former Saginaw Valley State University senior guard Kristen Greene has been selected as a member of the Women's College Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) Academic-Athletic Team.

To be eligible for the team, players must be a starter or key reserve and have at least a 3.2 grade point average.  Greene definitely exceeded both of those requirements, starting all 26 games while leading the team in scoring (15.8), rebounds (6.6), assists (2.6) and steals (1.0), all while playing in a team-high 35.1 minutes-per-game.  Add with those credentials a 3.82 grade point average while majoring in nursing and she makes for a shoe-in for the award.

Greene, who set the all-time three point attempts record and single season free throw percentage record (89.2), earned Second Team All-GLIAC honors for her stellar 2013-14 season.  She surpassed another huge mark as well over the winter, amassing the 1,000-point plateau for her career in a Cardinal uniform on February 13th at Northern Michigan University.

The Cardinals as a team set a school record for three-point field goal percent at 39.1%, which was good enough to lead the GLIAC and finish third in the nation.  SVSU also broke the school record for team free throw percentage at 77.1%.  That put them second in the GLIAC and 11th in the nation for free throw percentage.

SVSU finished with a 14-13 (12-10 GLIAC) record and was the #6 seed in the GLIAC Tournament.  The quarterfinal appearance marked the first back-to-back GLIAC Tournament showings for the Cardinals since the 1997-1998 and 1998-1999 seasons.  The 14 victories were the most for the program since the 2003-2004 season and the 12 GLIAC wins, including a win streak of six, were the most for the Cardinals since the 1998-1999 season.  The back-to-back seasons finishing over .500 has also not happened since the 1997-1998 and 1998-1999 seasons.   Head Coach Jamie Pewinski was selected as the GLIAC Women's Basketball "Coach of the Year" following the team's success.  She marks the first SVSU coach to earn that distinction.
