Lady Cardinals Fall to Panthers, 72-61

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team fell to Ohio Dominican, 72-61 today in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match-up.

The Cardinals fell behind early in the first half and were unable to take control over the Panthers. Saginaw Valley entered the locker room at halftime trailing Ohio Dominican by 11 after a lay-up by Marah Kyle (Bluffton, Ind.) with the score 35-24.

Saginaw Valley was unable to make a run to get back into the game in the second half. Ohio Dominican remained ahead, going onto a 72-61 victory over the Cardinals.

Meijer "Player of the Game" Brittany Burkhardt ended the contest with nine points, three blocks and 14 rebounds for the Cardinals, while Kyle ended the night with 14 points, two steals, two assists, and two rebounds for Saginaw Valley. Sophomore Cheritee Green (Wyoming Park, Mich.) added 11 points and four rebounds, and freshman Kayla Womack (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) had eight points for the Cardinals.

With the loss, Saginaw Valley falls to 6-12 overall on the season and 4-8 in the GLIAC while Ohio Dominican improves to 5-13 overall on the season and 3-9 in league play. The Cardinals will be back in action on Thursday (Feb. 3) when they take on the Lakers of Grand Valley State University in a home contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00pm.
