TIFFIN, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team defeated the Tiffin University Dragons on the road by a score of 53-46.  The victory makes two in a row for the Lady Cardinals, who are now 6-11 overall on the season and 4-7 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.  The Dragons fall to 11-7 overall and 6-6 in league play.

SVSU got things going early in the contest, jumping out to a 12-0 lead, capped-off by a three-pointer from freshman Kristen Greene (Brown City, Mich.) with 16:27 remaining in the half.  The Cardinal lead would stand at 17-10 at the 9:51 mark after a free throw by sophomore Aysha Boston (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance HS).  Neither team would score until the 6:29 mark, when Tiffin's Mandy Jaeb cut SVSU's lead to five points with a jumper.  A Boston triple would give the Cardinals a nine point advantage with 1:16 remaining at 25-16, but the Dragons would use another Jaeb jumper with 19 seconds left to cut the lead to 25-18, which is where the score would stand heading into the half.

Boston led the scoring in the first half, posting nine points while Greene added five points in the first 20 minutes.  Senior Brittany Burkhardt (West Bloomfield, Mich./Walled Lake Central HS) led both teams with seven rebounds in the opening half.

SVSU would extend its lead to 14 points at the 12:49 mark in the second half with the score 36-22 in the Cardinals' favor after a jumper by sophomore Grace Herzog (Linden, Mich./Powers Catholic HS).  The Cardinals would lead by a count of 38-34 with five minutes left in the contest, but would use good free throw shooting down the stretch to close-out for the seven-point victory, 53-46.

Boston earned Meijer "Player of the Game" honors after finishing with a game-high 15 points while adding two rebounds and a pair of steals.  Burkhardt had nine points and a career-high 16 rebounds for the Cardinals.  Sophomore Cheritee Green (Wyoming Park, Mich.) narrowly missed another double-double, netting nine points and eight rebounds for SVSU.

The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday (1/29), as they take-on the Ohio Dominican Panthers in a GLIAC match-up, which is set to tip-off at 3:00 pm.  It will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
