
ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University track and field teams finished the final day of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) outdoor championships with two more conference champions, 11 podium appearances, and a new school record. The Cardinal men placed second as a team with 131 points, while the women were fourth with 85.
Brown's record of 46.85 seconds in the 400m placed him second in the race and earned him a podium spot. Trevor Culpepper won the 100m with a new PR of 10.47. Madisyn Lundquist was the final GLIAC champion after clearing the bar in the pole vault at 3.64m.
Sophia Thelen earned a podium spot after finishing the women's 100m in second with a time of 11.98. Thelen also had a fourth-place showing in the 200m after clocking a 24.91. She ran in the women's 4x100 relay with Alicia Fields, Taylor Moyer, and Trinity Greer and placed fourth in that race as well after a time of 47.50.
Karissa Picard earned second in the 1500m after setting a new PR of 4:31.18. Lukas Ray was second in the shot put with a throw of 16.52m. Ray also had a top-10 showing in the discus after he placed ninth with a toss of 45.38m. Nick McArdle earned his second podium of the meet with a second-place finish in the men's 5k, crossing the finish line at 14:29.30.
The men's 4x100 relay team, consisting of Culpepper, Quin Broussard, Brown, and Matthew Gazzarato, placed second with a time of 40.63. Broussard made the podium again as a member of the men's 4x400 relay team that finished in third with a time of 3:15.52. Matthew Canales, Brown, and Ryan Mixon were the other athletes on that team. Broussard made the podium once as an individual as well when he placed third in the 200m after clocking a new PR in the race of 21.47.
Nate Niederquell was the final Cardinal to make the podium with a third-place finish in the 400m hurdles with a PR time of 53.75.
Janae Hudson just missed a podium appearance in the discus after she placed fourth with a new PR mark of 40.85m. Hudson was also fifth in the shot put after a best toss of 13.20m.
Jack Lobodzinski was also one position away from the podium in the 1500m after placing fourth in the race with a finish of 3:55.33. Corey Bowers was just behind Lobodzinski in the 1500m with a time of 3:56.63.
Grace Collett had a top-five finish when she placed fifth in the 100m hurdles after a PR of 14.20.
The final fifth-place finish was the women's 4x400 Relay team of Trinity Greer, Taylor Moyer, Lundquist, and Makayla Fuerst with a time of 3:55.99.
Nolan Berg had two top-eight performances, placing sixth in the shot put (15.47m) and seventh in the discus (46.30m). Adam Thomas also placed sixth in the 5k after a time of 14:46.38. Autumn Morris hopped into sixth place in the women's triple jump with a mark of 10.82m.
Jacob Walker, Gazzarato, and Olivia Carpenter placed seventh in their respective events. Walker finished the 5k in 14:46.96, Gazzarato the 100m in 10.85, and Carpenter the 100m hurdles in 14.53.
The last three Cardinals placing in the top eight were Noah Verlinde in the 5k at 14:49.35, Ryan Mixon in the 400m at 51.04, and Jenna Picard in the 400m with a time of 2:20.04.
