Cardinals Claim Both DMR Titles on Day One of GLIAC Indoor Championships

UNIVERSITY CENTER, MICH. – Two titles and two school records were broken by the Saginaw Valley State University track & field teams on the first day of the GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday afternoon.

Both Distance Medley Relay teams claimed conference crowns to end the first day of competition while Alona Olshevska and Quin Broussard each broke the 200m records during the prelims of the event.

Olshevska improved upon her record in the 200 with a new time of 24.04 to finish as the top seed heading into the finals of the event tomorrow. Broussard snapped the record by .15 seconds to also enter the finals of the 200 as the top seed with his time of 21.78.

The women's DMR squad consisting of Jenna Picard, Trinity Greer, Karissa Picard, and Alexa Keiser came from behind to win the race in 11:40.05 and earn the GLIAC championship.

The men's team of Jack Lobodzinski, Tyler Burrell, Shane Siterlet, and Dominic Suliman won with a time of 9:57.12 to end day one with two SVSU championships.

Cassandra Campbell had a good day for the Cardinals as she earned the top seed for the 60m hurdles with a prelim time of 8.61. Campbell was also seventh in the 400m prelims after a time of 58.53.

Olshevska earned a second top seed for the day, this time in the 60m prelims after her time of 7.55.

Grace Collett had the second-best time in the 60m hurdles prelims at 8.73 seconds.

Olivia Carpenter finished the women's pentathlon in fourth with a score of 3066.

Trinity Greer was fifth in the compiled standings for the 400m prelims after her time of 57.69. Hanna Schroeder finished the 60m hurdle prelims in fifth with a finish of 8.98.

Angelina Delbosque earned sixth in both the 60m prelims and the 200m prelims. Her time in the 60m was 7.84, while her finish in the 200 was 25.23.

Sophia Thelen claimed seventh in the 60m prelims with a time of 7.86. Thelen also had the eighth-best time in the 200m prelims at 25.30.

Lynsey Amthor earned two points toward the Cardinals team score with her seventh-place finish in the 5K with a time of 17:28.56.

Nick McArdle was a podium finisher for the men after finishing the 5K in third with a time of 14:30.57.

Christian Purchase-Ofoeme ranked first in the heptathlon after four of seven events were finished on the first day. The final three events will kick off day two beginning at 9:00 a.m., EST with the 60m hurdles. He also earned a point for the men's team in the long jump after finishing eighth with his best leap of 6.40m.

Tyler Burrell had the fifth-best time in the 400m prelims with his mark of 50.20. Thomas Hufton claimed four points in the 5K with his time of 14:41.56 which placed him fifth in the race. Andrew Quinn scored four points with a fifth-place finish in the men's weight throw after a toss of 15.98m.

Alexander Stoll placed sixth in the 60m hurdles prelims with a time of 8.60.

Carson Hersch was seventh in the 5K with a time of 14:42.47 which earned two points toward the team total.

Ryan Brenner ran the 400m prelims where he placed seventh with a time of 50.62. Clarence Corbett threw the weight 15.52m to earn two points for the Cardinals. Nolan Berg was right behind Corbett with a throw of 15.33m to earn another point in the weight throw for SVSU.

The women's team currently ranks fifth in the team standings with a score of 17 points after the first day. The men are second with 30 points heading into the final day of the championships.

Day two begins tomorrow (Sunday, February 25) at 9:00 a.m., EST, with the first of the final three events of the men's heptathlon.
