Alona Olshevska Breaks 200m Record at Jet’s Pizza Invitational

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University track and field team completed the annual two-day Jet's Pizza Invitational on Saturday evening. Alona Olshevska highlighted the weekend's performances by breaking her own school record in the 200m by .11 seconds with her winning time of 24.14 seconds. Ryan Brenner was the top performer on the men's side as he won the heptathlon with a final tally of 5243.

Olshevska claimed both of the women's event wins with her record-setting 200m and a first-place finish in the 60m dash of 7.58.

Cassandra Campbell was one of four women's student-athletes to claim second in an event. She finished the 60m hurdles in 8.78 to earn her position. Jenna Picard was second in the 800m with a time of 2:15.28. Alexa Keiser finished the 3k in 9:40.42 for her second-place prize. Ciera Weber had a season-best mark of 3.61m in the pole vault to earn runner-up.

Grace Collett was the only Cardinal to finish third with her time of 8.78 in the 60m hurdles. Hanna Schroeder finished behind Collett to claim fourth in the 60m hurdles with her time of 8.93. Angelina Delbosque finished out the top five performances for the SVSU women with her 60m time of 7.91.

Brenner dominated the heptathlon as he finished first in five of the seven events. He finished the 60m in 7.24 to win. His other top placings came in the shot put (14.65m), high jump (1.95m), 60m hurdles (8.72), and 1000m (2:46.94). He placed second in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 4.10m and fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.36m.

Trevor Culpepper and Shane Siterlet were second in their respective events. Culpepper completed the 60m in 6.84 for his placing, while Siterlet set a PR in the 800m with a time of  1:53.28.

Jacob Walker hit a PR in the 3k with his time of 8:28.47 to finish third in the race. The men's distance medley relay team of  Bryce Husen, Cameron Sherrill, Justin Roose, and Tyler Bays finished in third with a total time of 10:16.64.

Caleb Smith set a PR in the 5k with his fourth-place time of 15:13.70. Clarence Corbett finished the shot put in fourth with a toss of 15.63m. Corbett also had a season-best weight throw of 15.84m to snag fifth in the event. Noah Verlinde took fifth in the 3k after crossing the finish in 8:30.19. Quin Broussard was fifth in the 60m after clocking in at 7.04. Tyler Burrell and Justin Roose rounded out the top five finishes for the men with times of 50.23 in the 400m for Burrell and 4:20.76 in the mile for Roose.

The SVSU men's track and field team will take a road trip to Chicago, Illinois next Friday, February 2 to compete at the Lewis Invitational while the women remain at home to host the annual W-C-W Tri-Meet on Saturday, February 3.
