Ryan Kelly claims all-american honors on final day of NCAA Championships

KINGSVILLE, Texas -- The SVSU Track & Field teams had three student-athletes round-out competition on Saturday at the 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Texas A&M-Kingsville. Ryan Kelly picked-up an all-american honor in the shot put with a new school record while Allison Dorr and Tom Goforth competed in the 5,000 meter run as well. 

Kelly registered a distance of 18.34 meters, which translated to 60' 2" for a sixth place finish and his second all-american honor. He earned second team all-american honors in the shot put in the 2017 outdoor season and now is a first team all-american. The mark is a new program record as well, besting his own mark of 57' 5". 

Dorr finished in 15th place in her 5,000 meter race after earning first team all-american honors in the 10,000 meter run after her race on Thursday. She crossed the line in a time of 17:51.69 in the 5,000. 

Goforth finished 15th in his 5,000 meter race as well, turning in a time of 15:07.05 in the race on Saturday.

The event concludes the 2018-19 season for the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals, with three student-athletes achieving all-american status this year in Allison Dorr (10,000 meters), Lauren Huebner (Heptathlon national champion) and Ryan Kelly (shot put).
