Huebner leads heptathlon; Dorr claims all-american honors on day one of NCAA Championships

KINGSVILLE, Texas -- The Saginaw Valley State University Track & Field programs had five student-athletes kick-off competition at the 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. This year's championships are being held at Texas A&M-Kingsville's Javelina Stadium. The Cardinals had some great performances on the day and collected one all-american honor.

That all-american honor came from Allison Dorr, who finished 8th in a great comeback for the race. Dorr finished the 10,000 meter run with a time of 38:05.52. It marks her first track all-american honor, adding to her one from this past fall's cross country season.

Lauren Huebner began her competition in the heptathlon as well and impressed on day one. She began the day by breaking her own program record in the 100 hurdles, turning in a time of 14.01 seconds for 977 points. After clearing the bar at a height of 1.55 meters in the high jump for 678 points, Lauren had a distance of 11.66 meters in the shot put for 639 points. She capped the day with 900 points in the 200 meter dash, claiming the top score with a time of 24.86 seconds. She sits in first place after the four events with 3,194 points, which is 55 points clear of second place.

In the men's 10,000 meter run, SVSU had a pair of student-athletes competing. Tom Goforth narrowly missed-out on second team all-american honors after finishing 13th with his mark of 31:59.96.
