Netschke, Williams pace Cardinals with GLIAC titles on day two of GLIAC Championships

ALLENDALE -- The Cardinal Track & Field teams continued at day two of the 2019 GLIAC Outdoor Championships at Grand Valley State. Saginaw Valley got a pair of GLIAC titles and had many student-athletes move on the to finals rounds with some stellar performances on Thursday. The Cardinal Women are currently 3rd with 49 points while the Men sit in 4th with 30 points heading into Friday's final day of competition.  

Women

  • Andriana Higgins posted a 3rd place showing in the 200 meter dash, advancing to the finals after her time of 24.81 seconds. 
  • Higgins and Lauren Huebner were 1-2 in the 100 hurles prelims, with Higgins posting a time of 14.17 seconds and Huebner right behind with her time of 14.21 seconds. Both times are provisional qualifying marks. 
  • Huebner regisered the top time in the 400 meter hurdles, adding another provisional time of 1:01.29 to advance to the finals. 
  • In the 1,500 meter run, Sydney Kreger and Jenna Keiser earned the right to compete in the finals. Kreger was 3rd in the prelims while Keiser was 8th, posting times of 4:52.10 and 4:55.02, respectively. 
  • Allison Dorr collected eight points for the Cardinals after her 2nd place finish in the 10,000 meter run. She had a time of 37:01.25. Sohpia Bradley finished 5th with a time of 37:25.73 and four points while Carissa Martin received one point after her 8th place finish with a time of 38:48.39. 
  • Brooke Sutyak collected six points for the Cards after her 6th place showing in the pole vault. She cleared the bar with a height of 3.35 meters (10' 11.75"). 
  • Donna Jean Eschenbacher finished 5th in the long jump, adding four points for the team with her distance of 5.43 meters (17' 9.75"). 
  • In the javelin throw, Emily Droski finished 3rd to gain six points with her distance of 35.26 meters (115' 8"). Huebner added four points after finishing 5th with a mark of 33.65 meters (110' 5"). 

Men

  • Jacob Netschke rounded-out his decathlon performance by claiming the championship for the Cardinals. He claimed the top spot with a total of 6,327 points, which is an NCAA Provisional qualifying mark. He narrowly edged teammate Noah Dooley, who finished in 2nd place with 6,252 points.
  • Casey Williams made it two GLIAC championships this year in the long jump. After winning the indoor title, he claimed the outdoor championship with a distance of 7.21 meters (23' 8"). Brandon Keys finished 7th (6.78 m) to score two points for the Cardinals as well. 
  • In the javelin, Alex Badr finished 4th with a distance of 46.48 meters (152' 6") to rack-up five points while Netschke was 6th with a mark of 45.08 meter for three points. 
  • Netschke added two more points for SV, finishing 7th in the high jump with a mark of 1.90 meters (6' 2.75"). 
  • Parker Eisengruber, Brendan Nesbitt and Ryan Talbott will compete in Friday's 1,500 meter run finals, as Nesbitt finished 5th in the prelims with a time of 4:01.98 and Talbott had a showing of 4:02.27. Eisengruber's 4:02.94 was the top time of the three. 
  • Cordell Richardson moved on to the finals of the 400 meter hurdles, crossing the line with a time of 56.04 seconds. 
  • Riley Freeney will compete in the finals of the 800 meter run, as he finished 6th in the prelims with a time of 1:55.82.
  • In the 400 meter prelims, Carter Eckhardt and Keith Rodriguez finished 4th and 8th, respectively, to advance on to the finals. Eckhardt had a time of 48.82 seconds while Rodriguez had a 49.84 second showing. 
  • Travon Phillips will be competing in the finals of the 100 meter dash after finishing 4th in the prelims with his time of 10.73 seconds. 
  • Three Cardinals scored in the 10,000 meter run, with Clyde Anderson pacing the group in 4th place and five points. He ran to a time of 32:16.62. Branden Bohling ended up 6th with a mark of 32:31.92 while Austen Mandernach got a point after posting an 8th place finish with a 32:41.64.
