Five Cardinals to compete in 2018 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships

UNIVERSITY CENTER -- The Saginaw Valley State University Indoor Track & Field teams will send five student-athletes on to compete in the 2019 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships. 

Allison Dorr and Lauren Huebner will represent the Cardinal Women's program while Tom Goforth, Ryan Kelly and Casey Williams will move on for the men. 

Below are the student-athletes moving on and the respective events they will be competing in. This year's championships are set to be hosted Mar. 8-9 at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas. 

Allison Dorr | 5,000 Meters - Dorr qualifies for her first track national championships after coming off her first all-american performance at the cross country national championships this past fall. She is ranked 18th in the nation after posting a time of 16:53.60 at the GVSU Big Meet, which is a school record. Dorr had second place finishes this weekend in the distance medley relay and the 3,000 meter run to help lead the Cardinals at the GLIAC Championships. 

Lauren Huebner | Huebner qualifies for the national championships for the first time as well, holding down the 8th spot nationally in the pentathlon. She posted a school record total of 3,663 at the SVSU Holiday Open. She is coming off four top-three finishes this past weekend at the GLIAC Championships. 

Tom Goforth | 5,000 meters - Goforth, who is a two-time cross country all-american, enters as the No. 8 seeded runner in the event. He posted his qualifying time of 14:10.89 at the GVSU Holiday Open, with that being a new program record as well. Goforth finished second in the 3,000 meter run on Sunday at the GLIAC Championships. 

Ryan Kelly | Shot Put - Kelly has the ninth-best distance in the shot put, tossing a program record of 59' 2.25" at the SVSU Classic. He is fresh off a GLIAC championship in the event as well. He earned second team all-american honors in the 2017 outdoor season in the shot put. 

Casey Williams | Long Jump - Williams competed in his first career event over the weekend at the 2019 GLIAC Championships, claiming the title in the long jump with a distance of 24' 4.25". He was just two inches shy of matching the program record and enters the championships as the 15th-ranked jumper in the event.
