Cardinals finish 4th at 2019 GLIAC Indoor Championships

UNIVERSITY CENTER -- The Saginaw Valley State University Indoor Track & Field teams hosted the 2019 GLIAC Championships this weekend. Both teams finished the weekend in 4th place, each recording 72 points in the meet. There were several stellar performances on Sunday to round-out the competition for the Cardinals, highlighted by one championship.

GVSU won the league title on both sides, with Ashland coming in second. Northwood finished ahead of SVSU on the men's side while Northern Michigan was on the women's side. Casey Williams was named the GLIAC Freshman Field Athlete of the Meet, having claimed the GLIAC title in the long jump on Saturday. 

Men

  • Ryan Kelly claimed the GLIAC championship in the shot put. Kelly posted a distance of 17.86 meters in the finals for the provisional qualifying mark. 
  • Tom Goforth finished 2nd in the 3,000 meter run, posting a provisional time of 8:22.12 in the race. Ryan Talbott finished 6th in the same event with his time of 8:32.94. 
  • In the mile run, Parker Eisengruber registered a 3rd place finish with his time of 4:12.70. Brendan Nesbitt scored as well with his 8th place finish and time of 4:17.03.
  • The 4 x 400 meter relay team finished 4th, as Eckhardt, Keith Rodriguez, Noah Dooley and Freeney posted a time of 3:19.43.
  • Brandon Keys finished 6th in the triple jump to score for SVSU after he posted a distance of 12.90 meters. 
  • Carter Eckhardt finished 6th in the 400 meter finals with his time of 49.15. 
  • Riley Freeney finished 7th to score in the 800 meter run, turning in a time of 1:53.73.

Women

  • Jenna Keiser finished runner-up in the mile run, finishing in a time of 4:58.00. That is an NCAA provisional qualifying time. 
  • Allison Dorr had a big push on the final lap of her 3,000 meter race, giving her a 2nd place finish in the race with a provisional time of 9:47.38. Dominique Adams and Sydney Kreger finished 7th and 8th to score for the Cards as well. 
  • The 4 x 400 meter relay team took 3rd and posted a provisional time of 3:49.02, just shy of the program's all-time record in the event. Lauren Huebner, Higgins, Samantha Warren and Alona Olshevska contributed to Sunday's performance. 
  • Lauren Huebner and Andriana Higgins took 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the 60 hurdles, being separated by a thousandth in their provisional performances for the Cardinals. Huebner finished with a time of 8.781 while Higgins crossed the line at 8.782. 
  • Higgins was 5th in the 200 meter run finals, finishing at 25.03 seconds. 
  • Alicia Aldrich registered a 4th place finish in the shot put, tossing it a distance of 13.71 meters for a provisional mark.
