BRADENTON, Fla. - Two Saginaw Valley State University track & field student-athletes competed on the opening day at the 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships. Robert Atwater competed in the high jump while Taylor Stepanski ran in the 800 meter run.

Atwater cleared the bar with a height of 2.09 meters (6'10.25"), finishing in seventh place overall at the championships. It marks his second all-american honor, as he finished sixth at the indoor championships earlier this year as well.

Stepanski claimed the top spot in the third heat with a time of 2:08.45, as she sealed a place in Saturday's finals with the second-best overall time in this year's prelims. She will run for the championship at 7:05 p.m.

Teammate Emerald Joiner will compete in the shot put Saturday at 5:05 p.m., as she is the third SVSU student-athlete at the championships.
