Cardinals Travel to Hillsdale for Border Battle Invitational

HILLSDALE, Mich. - The SVSU track & field team competed in the Border Battle today hosted by Hillsdale College. The Cardinals posted two provisional qualifying marks and four first place finishes.

In the 100 meter dash, Chelsi Collins and Bria Williams finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Collins posted a time of 13.09 and Williams a time of 13.15.

Ola Hendler took ninth in the 200 meter dash, recording a time of 26.67.

In the 800 meter run, DeAnna Stickler-Gatson provisionally qualified for the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships and took second with a time of 2:12.49. Paige Stepanski followed in third with a time of 2:18.28. Ce'Aira Richardson finished fifth at a time of 2:23.25 and Dominique Adams landed at eighth with 2:27.99.

Alicia Tomlin finished third in the 1,500 meter run at a time of 4:48.97, followed by Allison Dorr in fourth at 4:50.66. Dominique Adams took eighth at 4:56.12.

Bria Williams took fourth in the 100 meter hurdles, posting a time of 15.10.

In the 400 meter hurdles, Lina Davis posted a third place finish, notching a time of 1:04.79.

The 4x400 meter relay team of DeAnna Stickler-Gatson, Paige Stepanski, Ola Hendler and Ce'Aira Richardson finished third after a recording a time of 3:53.96.

In the field events, Anna Fochesato and Sidney Bischer took second and third in the high jump, respectively. Both had best heights of 1.60 meters.

In the triple jump, Fochesato took first in the triple jump with a best distance of 11.69 meters.

Emerald Joiner provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships and took third with a final throw of 13.53 meters. In the discus throw, Joiner finished seventh, posting a distance of 39.89 meters. She also took ninth in the hammer throw at a distance of 45.73 meters.

Cady Sandel took first in the javelin throw, marking a distance of 35.00 meters.

In the 100 meter dash finals, Robert Atwater finished fourth, recording a time of 11.63, followed by Desmond Baugh in fifth at 11.90.

Shawn Stewart took seventh in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.61. Brandon Love finished ninth at a time of 22.78

In the 400 meter dash, Keith Rodriguez and Sam Black finished ninth and tenth. Rodriguez recorded a time of 50.92 and Black posted a 51.13.

In the 800 meter run, Gerald Henderson marked a time of 1:58.69 and finished sixth.

Desmond Baugh took first in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.41.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Josh Simmons, Andrew Mudd, Shawn Stewart and Blake Oakes posted a second place finish with a time of 3:21.65.

In the men's high jump, Noah Vanderveen and Sam Black tied for third with a best height of 1.93 meters. Brady Watson finished tied for sixth at a height of 1.88 meters.

Robert Atwater took fifth in the pole vault at a height of 4.26 meters.

Atwater finished third in the long jump, with a distance of 6.84 meters, followed by Robert Tarpley in fourth at a mark of 6.79 meters.

Tarpley finished first in the triple jump, posting a distance of 14.26 meters. Brady Watson took second with a distance of 13.37 meters.

In the discus throw, Ben Morrow and Ryan Kelly took fifth and sixth, respectively. Morrow posted a throw of 44.11 meters and Kelly a distance of 43.76 meters.

Devin Hartnagle took fourth in the hammer throw, notching a distance of 51.07 meters. Morrow posted a seventh place finish at 45.21 meters.

Up Next for the Cardinals...

The Cardinals will travel to Grand Valley State University next weekend (April 22 & 23) for the Al Owens Invite.
