Track & Field Competes at GVSU Tuneup

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University track & field teams traveled to compete at the Last Chance Meet on Friday, hosted by Grand Valley State University. The Cardinals posted three NCAA Division II Provisional marks during the meet.

D'Omar Boyden finished second and earned a NCAA Division II qualifying time in the 60 meter hurdles, recording a time of 8.26.

Emily Short and Brittany Johnson posted third and fourth place finishes in the mile run, respectively. Emily Short's time 4:59.02 was a NCAA Division II qualifying mark. Johnson recorded a time of 5:01.62.

In the men's mile run, Parker Eisengruber notched a third place finish with a time of 4:18.30.

Kimberly Balls finished second with a time of 57.28 in the 400 meter dash. Josh Simmons posted a fourth place finish in the same race for the men, recording a time of 49.32.

In the 200 meter dash, Shawn Stewart finished sixth posting a time of 22.70.

Darby Meinecke finished sixth in the 3,000 meter run, followed by Dominique Adams in eighth. Meinecke recorded a time of 10:50.91 and Adams posted a 10:58.65.

The women's 4x400 meter relay time of Taylor Stepanski, Ce'Aira Richardson, Ola Hendler and DeAnna Stickler-Gatson posted a second place finish and NCAA provisional qualifying mark with a time of 3:48.49. That's a new indoor school record for the event as well. 

Anna Fochesato tied for fifth in the long jump with a final distance of 1.56 meters. Sidney Bischer tied for seventh at the same distance.

The Cardinals will compete next Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 27-28) at the GLIAC Indoor Championships in the Heminger Center hosted by Tiffin University.
