Wainman and Hieber Named CSCAA All-American

Saginaw Valley State University swimming and diving had two student-athletes honored by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) on Tuesday, March 18. Benjamin Wainman earned First Team All-America in the 1650-yard freestyle and Second Team All-America in the 1000-yard freestyle. Alexa Hieber earned Second Team All-America in the 1650-yard freestyle as well.

Wainman finished the mile with a time of 15:24.66 to place eighth overall. Wainman's Second Team honors in the 1000-yard freestyle came from a 9:12.91 finish where he finished 14th overall, moving up one spot from his seed time.

Hieber entered the mile as the 27th seed and placed 15th. She smashed the program record in the event  with her time of 17:06.36, breaking her own record of 17:11.32 from last season by almost five seconds.

Head coach Jason Lintjer had this to say about Wainman and Hieber,

"It was very exciting to see Lexi and Ben achieve All-American status. Both have established themselves in the highest tier that Division II has to offer. It was amazing to watch their progression over the years and see their hard work pay off."
