Swim & Dive teams split on the road at Valparaiso

VALPARAISO, Ind. -- The SVSU Swimming & Diving teams split on the road at Valparaiso on Saturday (Nov. 16) afternoon, with the men's side claiming a 140-65 victory while the women fell by a 118-84 margin. 

Men

  • The 400 Medley Relay team claimed 1st place with a final time of 3:38.19. Teaming-up for that effort was Tyler Overmyer, Juan-Luke Hamilton, Evan Lindquist and Kyle Amick.
  • Pedro Rezende was 1st in the 1,650 Freestyle, as he finished that event with a mark of 16:41.75. He added a top showing in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:58.02, edging-out Isaac Inman (4:58.64).
  • Inman took 1st in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:48.73, just ahead of teammate Zachary Rychel, who had a 1:51.10.
  • Amick led a trio of top-three finishers in the 50 Freestyle, finishing with a 21.51. He was just ahead of Hamilton (22.13) and Cameron Whitfield (22.68).
  • Lindquist and Ryan Langdon finished 1-2 in the 200 Butterfly, finishing with times of 2:03.70 and 2:05.22, respectively. 
  • In the 100 Freestyle, Rychel was 1st (49.48), Whitfield 2nd (49.89) and Stephen Sterlitz 3rd (50.38).
  • Tyler Overmyer finished 2nd in the 200 Backstroke with his time of 2:06.93.
  • Hamilton finished 1st in the 200 Breaststroke with his mark of 2:13.55, narrowly ahead of Jared Caudill (2:13.80). 
  • The 400 Freestyle Relay team of Rychel, Inman, Whitfield and Amick finished 1st with their time of 3:17.80.

Women

  • Sydney Shipps was victorious in the 1,650 Freestyle, touching the board in a time of 18:16.50. She was runner-up in the 500 Freestyle as well with a mark of 5:33.14.
  • In the 50 Freestyle, Erin McDowell was third with her time of 26.38 seconds. 
  • Kimble Darbee claimed the top spot in the 400 IM, registering a mark of 4:54.48. She finished runner-up in the 200 Butterfly as well with her time of 2:25.24.
  • In the 100 Freestyle, Natasha Girgen claimed the first-place spot with a time of 54.80 seconds. 
  • McDowell took the first-place spot in the 200 Backstroke, turning in a time of 2:12.31.
  • Lisette Fenneuff was 2nd in the 200 Breaststroke with her time of 2:34.51.
  • Sarah Thompson, Kelsie Thomas, Grace Cherryhomes and Hailey Stewart finished 2nd in the 400 Freestyle Relay, turning-in a time of 3:53.23. 

Divers Compete at Hope College

The Cardinal divers also competed on Saturday, facing Hope College and Olivet. 

Elizabeth Caird won both the one and three meter dive events with scores of 260.60 and 267.40, respectively. She qualified to participate in the NCAA Dive-in meet with her performance on Saturday. Megan Lafollette and Adelaide Spencer were second and third behind Caird in both events.

The Cardinals head to their mid-season invitational, which will be the Wabash Invitational this upcoming weekend. The action begins on Friday (Nov. 22) in Indiana.
