Cardinals compete on day three of GLIAC Championships

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The SVSU Swimming & Diving teams finished the third day of the 2019 GLIAC Championships on Friday, as the women's team sits in 4th place with 281 points while the men are 6th with 201. The Cardinals had some solid performances on the third day at the Busbey Natatorium, giving them some momentum towards a final day Saturday push. 

Women

  • Alexandra Davis had a top-three finish for SVSU in the 500 free, finishing 3rd with a mark of 5:00.49 to rack-up 16 points. Sydney Shipps had the top time in the B finals, finishing in 9th overall with her time of 5:05.86.
  • In the 100 backstroke, Amanda Thielen was 6th with her time of 56.39 seconds. Erin McDowell was 11th in the same event with a mark of 58.34 seconds. 
  • Lydia Mattar was 7th overall in the 100 breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:05.10. Kimble Darbee competed in the B finals of the same event, ending up with a mark of 1:07.43.
  • In the 200 fly, Sarah Thompson had a 15th place finish in the B finals with her time of 37:92 seconds. 
  • Thielen, Erin McDowell, Shipps and Davis teamed up for a 3rd place finish in the 800 free relay with their time of 7:43.67. 

Men

  • Jayden Hutchinson was the 8th place finisher in the 200 fly, putting up 11 points with his performance of 1:53.85. Evan Lindquist was 14th in the B finals with his mark of 1:54.63. 
  • Justin Ott took 2nd in the 1 meter diving event, posting a score of 438.40 points. 
  • Pedro Rezende was in the B finals of the 500 free and he posted a 14th place finish, touching the board in a time of 4:37.96. 
  • Nick Berens finished 15th in the B finals of the 100 backstroke, turning in a time of 51.63 seconds. 
  • In the 100 breaststroke, Dylan Kopacki and Sanders Modglin finished 10th and 14th, posting times of 57.57 and 58.60 for the Cardinals. 
  • The 800 freestyle relay team finished 5th with their time of 6:56.30. Zachary Rychel, Mason Hooker, Berens and Hutchinson made up that team.
