SVSU Swim & Dive competes on opening day of GLIAC Championships

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cardinal Swimming & Diving teams began competition on Wednesday (Feb. 20) at the 2019 GLIAC Championships, being held at Cleveland State University. Saginaw Valley had four student-athletes score in the top-eight on day one, leading the women to a 4th place standing and the men to a 6th place showing.

Sydney Shipps and Alexandra Davis scored some solid points for SVSU, as Shipps took 3rd with her time of 10:19.51 and Davis was right behind in 4th with a mark of 10:22.62. They notched 16 and 15 points for SV, respectively. 

In the 200 IM, Lydia Mattar scored 11 points for the Cards while finishing in 8th place with her time of 2:09.40. 

Justin Ott collected a third place and podium finish in the three meter dive event. He finished with 449.45 points in the effort. 

In the men's 1,000, three Cardinals were in the B Finals, as Pedro Rezende (13th), Jayden Hutchinson (15th) and Peter Lin (16th) racked-up seven points for Saginaw Valley. 

The 200 Medley Relay saw SV finish 4th with their time of 1:46.68, as Amanda Thielen, Mattar, Kimble Darbee and Taylor Grashuis teamed up for the effort.
