SVSU Swim & Dive competes on day one of 2018 NCAA Division II Championships

Prelims Results | Final Results

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The SVSU Swimming & Diving team had its national qualifiers begin competition on Wednesday (Mar. 14) at the 2018 NCAA Division II Championships, hosted at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Cardinals got points from their 200 Medley Relay team and just missed out on more after an individual swim-off in the 50 free.  

50 Yard Freestyle

Melanie Soenksen tied for 16th in the preliminaries of the event with a time of 23.36 seconds. That forced a swim-off between her and another athlete. Soenksen would fall just short in the swim-off, being defeated by .02 seconds for the chance to advance to the consolation finals. 

200 Medley Relay

The Women's 200 Medley Relay Team, which consisted of Soenksen, Amanda Thielen, Alexa Bloom and Lydia Mattar, was 15th in the prelims after swimming to a new program record of 1:43.33. That same team finished 15th in the finals as well, posting a mark of 1:43.39. That earned the Cardinals four points for the 2018 championships.  

Women's 3 Meter Diving Prelims

Wilhelmina Francisco finished 19th in the diving prelims on Wednesday with a score of 380.10. She will compete in the 1 Meter event on Friday as well, beginning at 2 pm. 

Up Next...

Thursday's action will feature Rebeca Martinez and Lydia Mattar competing in the 400 yard individual medley relay while Mattar, Bloom, Thielen and Soenksen will be swimming in the 400 yard Medley Relay looking to add more points for Saginaw Valley. All of the action begins at 10 am on Thursday.
