Cardinals Continue Competition at Magnus Cup Invitational and Phoenix Fall Classic

The Saginaw Valley State University Swimming & Diving teams were back in action Saturday (Nov. 18), taking part in the Cleveland State Magnus Cup Invitational (Swimmers) and the Phoenix Fall Classic (Divers).

The divers had a stellar performance at the University of Chicago, as three athletes posted NCAA Division II Dive-in scores.

Diving

  • Justin Ott took first place with a score of 464.80 in the three meter dive event. That was an NCAA Dive-in qualifying score and new program record.
  • Elizabeth Caird was in second place on the women's side in the one meter dive. She scored 401.80 points and also had an NCAA Dive-in qualifying score.
  • Wilhelmina Francisco competed as well, placing third with her score of 397.60. That was also good enough for another Dive-in total for Francisco.

The Cardinals will continue on Sunday, as the women get on the three meter board and the men take part in competition on the one meter.

The Swimmers had some standout performances as well, highlighted by Shaun Yap's victory in the 100 Breaststroke. The top performances for the Cardinals are listed below, with the men sitting in seventh place overall with 277 points and the women eighth with 130 points.
