Shaun Yap Earns GLIAC Swimmer of the Week Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University junior swimmer Shaun Yap has earned Swimmer of the Week honors from the GLIAC and collegeswimming.com after his fantastic performance over the weekend at the Cleveland State Invitational. 

Yap had a big weekend for the Cardinals against top mid-major Division I competition at the Cleveland State Invitational. Yap set new program records in the 50 free and 100 free, as well as achieving NCAA Championghip "B" qualifying time standards in the 100 free, 100 breast and 200 breast. He claimed the top spot in the 100 breast and 200 breast and was a part of two relay teams that set new program records in the 200 and 400 free relays.

The performance was part of Saginaw Valley settting 15 new programs overall on the weekend and earning six NCAA "B" Qualifying Standard times. In all for the weekend, 99.99% of the team's performances were season-best showings.

The Cardinals, who are ranked 15th on the men's side nationally and 16th on the women's side, return to the pool on Saturday, January 14 as the teams compete against GLIAC foes Hillsdale College and Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio.
