Jayden Hutchinson and Melanie Soenksen Named CollegeSwimming GLIAC DII Swimmers of the Week

Saginaw Valley State University swimming student-athletes Jayden Hutchinson and Melanie Soenksen have been selected as this week's the top athletes in the GLIAC by collegeswimming.com. Both Hutchinson and Soenksen delivered solid performances this past weekend at meets against Kalamazoo College and Valparaiso.

Hutchinson swam to victory four times during this weekend's meets. He started the weekend with victories in the 200 Yard Butterfly (1:57.16) and also in the 1000 Yard Free, where he finished the event with a time of 9:54.71. The freshman swimmer would then secure wins in two events in the final weekend meet against Valparaiso. Hutchinson finished first in the 200 Yard Freestyle in 1:43.33 and would take his fourth win in the 500-Yard Freestyle, posting a time of 4:47.78 in the event. 

Soenksen won six events this weekend between both meets against Kalamazoo and Valparaiso. The junior swimmer started the weekend by grabbing a win in the 400 Yard Medley relay team. She finished the her heat in 54.17 seconds as the team earned a total time of 4:02.17. Soenksen would take first place in both the 50 Yard Free and 100 Yard Free as the Cardinal women took victory over Kalamazoo. In Sunday's meet against Valparaiso, Soenksen swam well, posting three wins. She took first place in the 50 Yard Free (24.36 seconds) and 100 Yard Free (53.81 seconds) while placing first in the 200 Yard Medley relay and posting the best time in her heat (54.18 seconds). 

Saginaw Valley State University Swim & Dive will not compete this weekend. The Swim team will travel to Cleveland, Ohio to participate at the Cleveland State Invitational next weekend (Nov. 18-20). The Dive team will compete at the Phoenix Fall Classic meet in Chicago from Nov. 18 to Nov. 20.
