Saginaw Valley State University sophomore swimming student-athlete Amanda Thielen has been selected as the top athlete in the GLIAC by collegeswimming.com for her performance this past weekend at a meet with Northern Michigan and Grand Valley State.

Thielen grabbed two victories on the weekend, including a first place finish in the 100-yard Backstroke with a time of 58.16 seconds. She now holds the five fastest times by an SVSU swimmer in the 100 Back. She then grabbed her second win of the meet in the 200yd Back with a time of 2:05.34. The Cardinals would later use Thielen to swim the first leg of the 400-yard Medley Relay, where she posted the fastest time in her Backstroke split at 58.46 seconds. SVSU placed third in the Medley Relay. 

The women were unable to procure victories against Northern Michigan or Grand Valley. The Lakers beat SVSU by a 196-103 score while NMU defeated Saginaw Valley with a final score of 197-102. The Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday, Novemeber 5 as the swim and dive team travels to Kalamazoo College for a meet. The team will return to Gerstacker Aquatics Center on Sunday, November 6 to host Valparaiso University.
