Softball Earns 10th Win of Season with 8-2 Decision Against Franklin Pierce

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Saginaw Valley State University softball team earned its 10th win of the season after an 8-2 win over Franklin Pierce on Friday morning. The Cardinals (10-5) led throughout the game, but a four-run sixth inning allowed the team to pull away for the victory.

Emily Depew (W, 4-2) earned her fourth win in the circle for SVSU as she pitched her third complete game. She sat down eight Ravens and gave up just two runs on four hits in her seven innings of work.

Sara Moos got things going for the Cardinals with a double to center field that scored Ella Reifschneider and Natalie Savage for the 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Katelyn Pnacek singled to left field to bring Moos home in the third to up the lead by one run. Olivia Sabin doubled the advantage on the next play when Mya Purdy scored on the fielder's choice play for the 4-0 lead after three frames.

A two-run shot to center field by FPU cut the Cardinal lead in half in the top half of the fourth inning, and the score would sit at 4-2 with two innings to play.

Alyssa Muench brought the lead back to four runs with a triple to center field that brought Maddie Campagna and Reifschneider home. Moos added another with a single to center field that scored both Marissa Beck and Muench for the 8-2 result.

Muench, Moos, and Pnacek had two hits in the game. Moos totaled four RBI, while Muench recorded two. Reifschneider led SVSU with two runs.

The Cardinals will finish their Spring Break trip tomorrow with a game against Barry and Nova Southern. Game one will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the finale scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
