BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Saginaw Valley State University softball team earned a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep over the Ferris State University Bulldogs on Thursday. SVSU earned an 11-3 win in game one before holding on for a 1-0 game two victory. 

The Cardinals are now 18-10 overall and 4-2 in the GLIAC. SVSU was the home team for both games as the doubleheader was moved to Ferris State due to field conditions at the SVSU Softball Complex. 

Game One Breakdown:

• After the Bulldogs scored a run in the top of the first, the Cardinals responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, capped off by Blasia Moyler's two-run double that scored Sara Moos and Jackie Popko. 
• Ferris State added a run in the top of the third before an RBI single by Leah Denome scored Maddie Campagna and made it 5-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
• In the bottom of the fifth, Popko extended the SVSU lead when she hit a solo home run, her fifth of the season. Later in the inning, Campagna singled home Meagan VerVaecke to make the score 7-2. 
• The Bulldogs scored one more run in the top of the sixth before SVSU added four more in the bottom of the sixth to earn the win, capped off by Paige Kolinski's two-run double. 
• Jaclyn Groves got the start on the mound for SVSU, going 2.1 innings, allowing two runs, four hits, and one strikeout. She was relieved by Emily Depew (6-6) who earned the win, pitching 3.2 innings of relief and striking out six batters.

Game Two Breakdown:

• Both teams struggled offensively, as neither was able to get a run across through the first five innings. 
• The Cardinals got what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the sixth when Julia Salisbury hit an RBI single that scored Maddie Campagna and was the only run of the game for both sides. 
• Julia Mundy (5-1) had an outstanding game on the mound for SVSU, only allowing one hit and striking out nine as she pitched a complete-game shutout. 
• SVSU was only able to manage four hits, with two coming from Sara Moos, one from Salisbury, and one from Kolinski.

The Cardinals will take on Grand Valley State University in a GLIAC doubleheader beginning at 2 pm Saturday from Allendale, Mich.
