GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University softball team traveled to Davenport University for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

SVSU took game one 3-1 thanks to strong pitching and a pair of Blasia Moyler home runs. Davenport jumped out to an early lead in game two and rolled to a 12-1 victory in game two in five innings.

The two teams also concluded the end of game two from March 23, which was halted in the fourth inning due to darkness. After SVSU went up 5-4, Davenport hit a two-out, three-run home run to earn the victory.

The results move SVSU to 18-9 overall and 7-7 in the GLIAC.

In game one of Saturday's doubleheader, Moyler gave the Cardinals a first-inning lead with a two-run home run. The score remained 2-0 until Moyler hit a solo home run in the sixth to extend the lead to three. The Panthers cut into the deficit with a solo home run of their own in the sixth but SVSU held on.

Emily Depew (4-0) tossed a complete game for the Cardinals, allowing one run on three hits and striking out seven.

Davenport scored five in the first and six in the third to cruise to the win in game two. SVSU's lone run came on a Panther error in the third, while Jackie Popko had the team's only hit of the game.

In the resumption of the March 23rd game, Moyler hit her first of three home runs on the day with a solo shot in the fourth. Alexis Koza came through for the Panthers with the game-inning three-run home run in the seventh.

Jaclyn Groves was charged with the loss in relief. She finished the game with 6.1 innings pitched.
