Six Softball student-athletes earn All-GLIAC accolades

SANDUSKY, Ohio -- Six Saginaw Valley State University Softball student-athletes earned All-GLIAC honors for their performances in the 2019 season. The awards were announced at the league's annual postseason banquet, held in conjunction with the 2019 GLIAC Tournament at the Sports Force Parks in Sandusky, Ohio. 

Freshman outfielder Jackie Popko was name to the All-GLIAC First Team as an outfielder while senior shortstop Aubree Mouthaan, sophomore designated player Shelby Misiak and sophomore catcher Blasia Moyler all earned All-GLIAC Second Team honors. Sophomores Meagan VerVaecke and Julia Salisbury were named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention team as well for SVSU.

Popko hit .331 for the Cardinals this year, knocking seven home runs with seven doubles and 34 RBI. She had a .551 slugging percentage, scored 28 runs and went 16-of-18 on the base paths for stolen base attempts. 

Mouthaan led the squad with a .379 batting average. She had 55 hits in 145 at-bats, ripping eight home runs with 13 doubles, two triples and 36 RBI. She slugged .662  and walked a team-high 20 times. She holds the SVSU Softball career home runs record with 33. This is Aubree's second straight All-GLIAC Second Team honor. 

Misiak hit .327 in 2019 with 10 home runs, eight doubles and 42 RBI. She registered a .580 slugging percentage and scored 23 runs. 

Moyler led the team and the GLIAC this past year with 15 home runs, which is tied for the single season record at SVSU as well. She ranks 4th in the league with her team-high 44 RBI and hit .333 on the season. Moyler added 10 doubles, a pair of triples and 13 walks while posting a team-high .752 slugging percentage. 

VerVaecke was second on the team with her .353 batting average. She had 10 doubles, one home run and 29 RBI for the Cardinals. VerVaecke scored 19 runs and posted a .446 slugging percentage.

Salisbury led the team with 15 doubles and hit .335 on the year. She had five triples and 27 RBI. Salisbury scored 24 runs, slugged .497 and was second on the team with her 52 hits. 

The Cardinals open GLIAC Tournament play on Friday (May 3) versus Northwood at 10:00 a.m. in Sandusky. The Cardinals enter this year's tournament as the No. 5 seed and the Timberwolves are the No. 4-ranked team.
