Cardinals Fall to #19 Prairie Stars in Midwest Regional Opener

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The SVSU Softball team opened play on Thursday (May 10) in the 2018 Midwest Regional #2 Tournament with a matchup against the No.19 nationally-ranked University of Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars. UIS would come away with a victory in the game, collecting 14 hits en route to a 9-0 victory over SVSU in five innings.

UIS had the offense rolling early, taking a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st on an infield single and two-run home run. The home team added a pair of runs in the 3rd inning to push the edge to 5-0. Four runs in the bottom of the 4th made the count 9-0, which is where the final score remained with a 5-inning shutout.

The Cardinals were unable to get much going offensively in the contest, going for three hits in the five innings of action. Julia Miller and Meredith Rousse each had a double in the contest while Maddy Burgess added a single. Aubree Mouthaan reached base as well on a walk.

Anna Conard (13-7) took the loss in the circle, working just 2/3 of an inning while allowing three runs on three hits with a walk.
