Purdue Northwest Claims GLIAC Sweep Over SVSU in Monday Twinbill

UNIVERSITY CENTER -- The Cardinal Softball team hosted Purdue Northwest in a rescheduled GLIAC doubleheader on Monday (Apr. 23) afternoon. The Pride defeated the Cardinals in both ends of the twinbill, taking the opener by an 8-4 score before securing a 7-3 win in the nightcap. 

Game 1

The Pride and Cardinals were knotted at 1-1 after two innings of play and the visitors added three runs in the top of the 3rd to take a 4-1 edge. 

Saginaw Valley used a Courtney Reeves RBI single in the 3rd to put the count at 4-2 in Purdue Northwest's favor. 

The visitors led 8-3 after five innings and the final SVSU run of the game came when Evy Lobdell drilled her first home run of the season in the 6th, putting the score at the eventual final of 8-4. 

Danielle Hamilton was the only Cardinal with two hits in the game while Meredith Rousse and Maddy Burgess each had a double. Lobdell had the solo shot while Reeves and Miller had the other RBI. 

Anna Conard (10-6) took the loss in the circle, allowing five runs (1 earned) with two strikeouts and a pair of walks. The Cards had four errors, leading to five unearned runs for the visitors. 

Game 2

SV got off to a solid start in game two, holding a 3-1 lead after the first three innings of play. A 2nd inning sac fly from Lauren Bachert and squeeze play in he 3rd from Becky Corbett led to the trio of runs for the home team. 

Purdue Northwest added a four spot in the 5th and two more in the 7th, taking the lead and making it 7-3. That would prove to be the final score.

Corbett and Bachert each had one hit and an RBI in the nightcap while Rousse had an extra-base hit with a double. 

Hannah Atwell (0-3) took the loss pitching, allowing two runs on three hits. Kasey Bagelmann got the start, allowing three runs on six hits, posting three strikeouts and three walks. Mikayla Alexandrou tossed a scoreless 7th inning for the Cardinals.
