MIDLAND -- The Cardinal Softball team bounced back on Thursday (Mar. 29) with a pair of shutout victories on the road at Northwood University. Saginaw Valley used some timely hitting and power to post two 3-0 shutout wins in Midland, Mich.

Game 1

The visitors got on the board early in the opener, taking a 1-0 edge in the top of the 1st when Lauren Bachert walked and was brought home by an RBI double from Meredith Rousse.

No more runs would cross the plate until the Cardinals struck again in the top of the 7th inning. Aubree Mouthaan singled with one out to get the action rolling. Becky Corbett dug-in next, proceeding to drill her first home runs of the season and second of her career to push the lead to 3-0.

That was more than enough for starting pitcher Mikayla Alexandrou (5-5). Alexandrou sealed the complete game victory, as she allowed just two hits and a walk while striking-out four batters.

Corbett finished 1-2 with a walk and the two RBI on the long ball, adding a stolen base. Rousse went 1-3 with the RBI double. Bachert had a walk and run scored while Danielle Hamilton had the only multi-hit gave for the visitors (2-3).

Game 2

It was the same script in the nightcap for the Cards, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st frame. Rousse belted a two-out solo shot for the lead.

Two more runs came SVSU's way in the top of the 5th after Rousse reached base to begin the half-inning. Courtney Reeves followed with a two-run home run to make the lead 3-0.

That was all of the game's scoring and Saginaw Valley would close out for the sweep through seven innings.

Rousse went 3-4 with the home run, two runs and an RBI. She sits second in the league now with five home runs. She is right behind Reeves, who continues to lead the GLIAC and now has eight home runs. She was 2-4 in the contest with two RBI and run. Evy Lobdell, Mouthaan, Corbett and Hamilton all had a hit as well, with Corbett's being a double.

Anna Conard (9-3) tossed a two-hit shutout of her own against the Timberwolves for the win. She allowed the two hits and three walks, notching a pair of strikeouts.
