CLERMONT, Fla. - The SVSU softball team ran its winning streak to seven games after a Friday sweep over Edinboro (Pa.) University and Urbana (Ohio) University at The Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The Cardinals began play by claiming a narrow 5-4 win over the Fighting Scots before finishing the day with a 10-0 mercy victory over the Blue Knights.

Game One

SV got out to a 2-0 lead after the bottom of the first off of an RBI triple from Meredith Rousse that scored Danielle Hamilton and an RBI single from Aubree Mouthaan that plated Shelby Weeks.

After a single run from Edinboro in the top of two, the Cards scored two more in the bottom of the third inning when Mouthaan crossed the plate on a passed ball and a Madison Burgess single pushed across Becky Corbett for the 4-1 edge.

The Scots tacked-on a run in their half of the fourth and another two in the top of six, knotting the score at 4-4.

Saginaw Valley would respond promptly, however, as Rousse would knock-in Hamilton once more, this time on a single up the middle to give the Cardinals the 5-4 lead. That's where the score stayed, as SVSU starting pitcher Sarah Vrabel set down the opposition in order to seal the victory.

Inside the Boxscore

• Vrabel (3-1) picked up the victory in the circle, working the complete game. She scattered eight hits and struck-out five batters.
• Hamilton was 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
• Rousse was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
• Mouthaan and Burgess had the other RBI singles for SVSU.
• Rousse (3B) and Bethaney Murphey (2B) had the two extra-base hits for SVSU.

Game Two

The Cardinals were led against the Blue Knights by Weeks, who had a huge game in going 4-for-4 with two home runs, a double, three runs scored and six RBIs. 

Claire Cookes-Meske had a career day at the dish as well, posting three hits and scoring three runs herself in the victory. 

Saginaw Valley scored two runs in the first and third innings, respectively, and added three each in the fifth and sixth innings for their total of 10. The 10-0 victory gives the team its second shutout of the season and second in as many days.

Inside the Boxscore

• Annie Hansen (2-1) got the victory in the circle, going 5.0 innings in the victory. She allowed just four hits, walked two and posted five strikeouts.
• Weeks had four hits and six RBIs, with two home runs and a double to her credit as well as scoring three times.
• Coopes-Meske's three hits marked a career-high for her in an SVSU uniform.
• The Cardinals matched a season-high with 12 hits in the contest.
• Brenna Bourdage had a hit and an RBI in the game, as did Kennedi Thomas. It marked the second career hit for both players.

Saginaw Valley (8-4) continues on with its final day of competition in Florida, as the Cardinals play GLIAC foe Ferris State University at 3:00 p.m. before taking on LIU Post at 5:00 p.m. at the Legends Way Ballfields.
