SVSU Winning Streak Snapped with Losses at Ohio Dominican

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University softball team saw its four game winning streak snapped with a pair of losses on the road at Ohio Dominican University today (Apr. 6).  SVSU fell in game one by a score of 3-0 before dropping game two by a 9-2 tally.

The Cardinals would find themselves in an early 3-0 hole after Ohio Dominican scored two runs in the bottom of the second and added another run in the bottom of the third inning.  

Saginaw Valley would look to get something started in the top of the fourth inning when Jordan Randall (Clinton Twp., Mich.) ripped a two-out double to left field but would be unable to advance any further.

Junior Lindsay Hayward (Ancaster, Ont.) would try and get another rally started in the top of the sixth inning when she reached base on a single up the middle, but would only advance to second base before the Panthers halted the SVSU rally attempt.

Saginaw Valley would be unable to add any runs in the top of the seventh inning as they fell to Ohio Dominican by a score of 3-0 in game one.  

Freshman Chelsea Davis (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) suffered her first loss of the season for the Cardinals in the circle, throwing all seven innings allowing three hits and three runs and striking out five Panthers in the effort.

Ohio Dominican would jump out to a 2-0 advantage in the top of the second when they scored two runs on two hits.  They would extend their lead to 3-0 in the top of the fifth inning, scoring one run on two hits.

Saginaw Valley would finally be able to maintain a rally in the bottom of the fifth inning when Marcy Medina (Valparaiso, Ind. / Wheeler HS) led off the inning with a pinch hit home run to center field.  The Cardinals would add a second run in the inning when Hayward ripped a double to right field to score Kaitlyn McBride (Brampton, Ont. / St. Thomas Aquinas HS) to make the score 3-2.

The Panthers would respond with a big inning of their own in the top of the sixth inning when they chased starter Jillian Williamson (Sebewaing, Mich. / USA HS) with a four run rally to make the score 7-2.

Ohio Dominican would add two more runs in the top of the seventh to go on to the 9-2 victory over the Cardinals. 

With the losses the Cardinals fall to 9-13 overall on the season and 5-3 in the GLIAC, while Ohio Dominican improves to 12-19-1 overall and 8-2 in the conference.  Saginaw Valley will return to action on Sunday when they host Tiffin University for their 2013 home opener at the SVSU Softball Complex.  Games are schedule to begin at noon.
